Orile-Agege, Lagos July 12, 2025. As residents across Lagos State took to the polls today for the much anticipated Local Government Elections, the atmosphere at Ward E, Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) radiated warmth, excitement, and deep-rooted pride. One of the key moments of the day was the arrival and active participation of Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu, fondly known as Dodo or Akin-Dodo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) sole candidate for the Chairmanship position in Orile-Agege LCDA.

Despite the late arrival of electoral officers, causing voting to begin closer to 11am, the residents of Orile-Agege turned out in impressive numbers, determined to exercise their civic duty. The scene at Akinola’s polling unit was both orderly and enthusiastic, as community members gathered not only to vote, but to witness a historic moment for their LCDA.
Accompanied by his family, including his aged mother and siblings who traveled from other parts of Nigeria. Hon. Akinola cast his vote with grace and humility. His presence further invigorated the spirits of the local people, many of whom had returned from neighboring states and abroad specifically to participate in the polls.

Speaking shortly after casting his vote, Akinola expressed immense gratitude to the people of Orile-Agege LCDA for their peaceful conduct and overwhelming turnout:
“I am humbled by the unity and determination our people have shown today. The peace and cooperation observed across all polling units reflect the strength and maturity of our democratic culture at the grassroots level.”
He also highlighted the unique nature of this election cycle in his constituency, where the APC stood unopposed, a symbol, according to him, of the party’s established connection with the people and his own grassroots influence.
Hon. Akinola took a moment to reflect on his political journey, which began at the tender age of 17 in 1992. Over the years, he has built his reputation through consistent service across zonal, ward, local, and state platforms of the party. His narrative is one of longevity, commitment, and intimate knowledge of the political and social pulse of Agege and Orile-Agege.

Born and educated in Agege in poor family, Akinola remains embedded in the daily lives of his constituents. His reputation as a grassroots political icon is further bolstered by his hands-on approach and willingness to engage with residents personally. The heartfelt blessings and emotional prayers from his mother, who was visibly moved by the moment, added layers of sincerity and warmth to the event.
Alhaji. Siliki, Chairman of Ward E, Akinola’s own ward, praised the selection of Dodo as incoming Chairman, citing it as a triumph for unity and progress. He emphasized the strong lineage of leadership from the ward, pointing out that Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, also hails from there:
“Orile-Agege is blessed with leaders who value togetherness and honesty. With Dodo at the helm, we expect transparency and dedicated service.”

Philanthropist and party stalwart Hon. Barr. Abdul-Azez Yusuf Ninolowo also cast his vote and offered remarks on the historic nature of the election, particularly noting the absence of opposition candidates:
“What we’ve witnessed today is unprecedented. It’s a testament to the trust people place in our candidates and the party’s vision for the future.”
The emotional crescendo of the day came as Wisdom Diary and Agbajowo Media documented a wave of returnees from diaspora, communities and neighboring states, who journeyed back to Agege just to vote. Their actions reaffirmed Akinola’s place as a beloved and trusted figure, someone whose leadership transcends borders.

As voting concludes and collation of results begins, media outlets including Wisdom Diary and Agbajowo Media will continue their coverage to keep citizens informed. Based on early observations, the Orile-Agege LCDA has made a strong case for transparent governance and unity, led by a man whose journey is rooted in the soil and soul of Agege.
Stay tuned as more results and reactions unfold in this pivotal moment for Lagos grassroots democracy.
