HON. AKINOLA IDOWU CHAMPIONS CLEANER ORILE-AGEGE HOSTS (WARD F) ENGAGEMENT ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION

Orile-Agege, Lagos | December 11, 2025

In a continued demonstration of people-centered governance and dedication to public hygiene, the Executive Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu (Dodo), today led another impactful phase of the Environmental Sanitation Sensitization Programme, engaging directly with residents, landlords, and stakeholders of (Ward F) in the LCDA.

The interactive session, part of the Chairman’s strategic ward-by-ward sanitation reform tour, took place at the Council Secretariat venue and focused on sustainable waste management practices, civic responsibility, and collaborative action between the government and the grassroots.

Addressing a gathering of community leaders, house owners, and concerned residents, Hon. Idowu restated his administration’s landmark relief policy aimed at easing the burden of sanitation-related levies and enhancing compliance with environmental standards. He reiterated that all outstanding LAWMA-related waste bills from 1999 to 2022 have been fully cancelled, giving residents a clean slate to start afresh.

Furthermore, he announced a 50% reduction in LAWMA refuse collection charges from January 2023 to September 2025, describing the move as a bold step to encourage accountability and participation. In a significant show of leadership, he also confirmed that all pending enforcement actions and legal proceedings connected to unpaid sanitation bills have been withdrawn, marking a new chapter of collaboration over conflict.

However, the Chairman emphasized the importance of ongoing compliance, noting that waste bills from September to December 2025 remain due and must be paid by all affected households. He added that only households with no outstanding bills will be prioritized in the distribution of new waste disposal bins, a project set to commence shortly as part of the council’s modern waste infrastructure plan.

The session also featured powerful community support, with Mr. Oderinde, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC)*, applauding Hon. Idowu for his unwavering commitment to environmental justice and civic wellbeing. In a symbolic gesture of admiration, the residents christened the Chairman “Dodo, Mr. Environment,” recognizing his frontline role in repositioning Orile-Agege as a cleaner, healthier place to live.

Other key figures in attendance included Hon. Toyin Akinola, respected elder Baba Olubisi Adedokun Odeomu, Mr. Lawal, and council sanitation officials who reinforced the message of collective responsibility and behavioral change. The gathering provided a platform for open dialogue, as residents asked questions, aired concerns, and made suggestions in a vibrant Q&A segment that captured the spirit of participatory governance.

In a show of compassion and inclusion, ten elderly citizens (five men and five women) were presented with empowerment forms, signaling the administration’s broader agenda of not just sanitation, but also economic upliftment of vulnerable members of the community. The Chairman confirmed that the empowerment event would take place in the coming weeks.

The initiative continues tomorrow, Friday, December 12, with the final ward engagement scheduled for Ward C, rounding off a council-wide campaign that has touched every political ward in Orile-Agege LCDA.

As this historic sanitation drive nears its conclusion, the message remains loud and clear: under Hon. Akinola Idowu’s leadership, cleanliness is not just a policy, it is a shared civic duty.
