
OJUDE OBASA 2025: A CELEBRATION OF HERITAGE AND UNITY IN AGEGE AND ORILE-AGEGE

It was an historical day for the people of Agege and Orile-Agege on June 9, 2025, the Ojude Obasa Heritage Day 2025, in its second edition, resonated deeply within the hearts of the citizens and residents of Agege and Orile-Agege. The event, hosted by the incoming Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu popularly known as DODO, which took place at the Obasa Constituency Office on Oyewole Street, Alaagba. This year’s gathering was marked as a remarkable honor of RT Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, and also celebration of culture, unity, and commitment to the development of the community that drive the future prosperity.
The festivities began promptly at 12 noon, setting a tone of patriotism with the recitation of the Nigerian National Anthem, followed by the National Pledge, led by Mr. Remi Bello. In his opening prayer, Mr. Bello invoked blessings for the Nation and recognized a pivotal figure in Nigerian politics, President His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria as the grand commander of modern Nigeria. The attendees paid homage to the president by reciting the Asiwaju Anthem, “On Your Mandate We Shall Stand,” igniting feelings of hope and solidarity among participants.


A sense of pride filled the atmosphere when the Principal and Leader of Agege, RT Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, was introduced. His significant contributions to transforming Agege and Orile-Agege into modern and developed areas brought about a thunderous ovation, with attendees chanting “Obasa We Stand” in unison—a clear reflection of their appreciation and support for his leadership.

The recognition segment continued as the Executive and Legislative members of both the Agege Local Government Area and Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area were acknowledged. Hon. Abdul-Ganiu Kola Egunjobi and Hon. Johnson Babtunde. Their dedication, he noted, contributes significantly to the continuous growth and vibrancy of the region.

Guests and Friends of our dearest communities, Ladies and Gentlemen, Good afternoon. It is with great pride, humility, and a deep sense of cultural responsibility that I stand before you today as the Chairman of this year’s Ojude OBASA heritage. Today is not just a celebration; It is a declaration of whom we are — we are AGEGE Indigenes, proud, resilient, Industrious, and deeply rooted in tradition. The Ojude OBASA heritage is more than just a gathering; it is a powerful reminder of our shared heritage, unity, and continued relevance in a fast-changing world blended with moments of appreciating our great political ICON in person of RT HON MUDASHIRU AJAYI OBASA Let me begin by expressing our profound gratitude to His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba Orile AGEGE and the Paramount ruler of our dearest Agege Kingdom and the Royal Chiefs for their visionary leadership, enduring legacy, and unwavering commitment to the progress and dignity of the AGEGE Kingdom. Project Speech By Chairman Ojude Obasa Heritage
The Ojude OBASA Festival is a vibrant celebration held annually in Agege, Lagos State, Nigeria. Traditionally observed on the third day after Eid-el-Kabir (Eid-al-Adha), this program serves as a grand homage to the rt.hon of MUDASHIRU OBASA, the incumbent Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly. This event seamlessly blends the political achievement of RT HON OBASA with rich applause, celebrating OBASA as an ICON and thereby showcasing the unity and heritage of both ORILE AGEGE and AGEGE Kingdom. The Annual Celebration of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to public service and the advancement of Lagos State. OJUDE OBASA is annual platform use to appreciate his enduring legacy as a distinguished legislator and a community leader. Since his election as Speaker in 2015, Rt. Hon. Obasa has been instrumental in shaping the legislative landscape of Lagos State. His tenure has seen the enactment of pivotal laws, including those promoting security, education, and cultural heritage. Under his leadership, the Lagos State House of Assembly has been recognized as one of the most successful state parliaments on Nigeria in line with his dedication to youth empowerment, this annual celebration features initiatives aimed at inspiring the younger generation. For instance, during his 52nd birthday in 2024, Rt. Hon. Obasa engaged students from various schools, rewarding outstanding pupils with cash prizes and encouraging them to pursue excellence in their studies. Obasa has facilitated the annual distribution of WAEC, JAMB, and GCE form to students in Agege, alleviating financial burdens from their parents and promoting educational advancement. Obasa Cup: To nurture young talents, Obasa initiated the “Obasa Cup,” a football tournament designed to discover and develop emerging athletes, promoting sportsmanship and community engagement. On Infrastructure Development RT HON MUDASHIRU OBASA Obasa played a pivotal role in advocating for the construction of the 1.4 Km dual carriageway flyover at Pen Cinema, Agege. His efforts culminated in the project’s inclusion in the state budget, leading to it’s completion and inauguration in 2021 by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The flyover has alleviated traffic congestion and enhanced connectivity in the area. OJUDE OBASA is not just a personal milestone for Rt. Hon. Obasa but a communal event that brings together citizens, government officials, and stakeholders. It serves as a platform for acknowledging the collective efforts towards the development of Lagos State and reinforcing the bonds that unite it’s people. On behalf of the organizing committee and the entire Agege community, I extend our deepest gratitude for your esteemed presence at the Ojude OBASA Festival. Your participation added immense dignity and significance to this year’s celebration. Your unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting our rich cultural heritage is truly commendable. The Wisdom Diary once again continue witnessing the vibrant and endearing celebration of the Ojude Obasa Heritage, it is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Agege community. Dignitaries from various local governments in Lagos converged to partake in the festivities, exchanging warm greetings and well-wishes.
The excitement was palpable as youths chanted “(Agege L’oga Wa, Obasa Tiwa ni)” while women from Tinubu-Obasa Glorious Women and Asiwaju-Obasa Ambassador – groups enthusiastically hailed the incoming Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA with chants of “(Ti DODO L’awa N Se)”
The highlight of the event was when Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu-DODO, the Orile-Agege APC Chairmanship Candidate and Convener of Ojude Obasa Heritage, took to the podium to deliver a speech of Leadership of Rt. Hon. Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. The atmosphere was electric, with the celebration reaching new heights.

Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa
Proudly representing the good people of Agege Constituency 01, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa is one of the most experienced legislators and currently the longest serving Member and Speaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly. He was born on November 11, 1972 and graduated from the Lagos State University where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Law (L.LB) and later enrolled at the Nigeria Law School. An early starter in politics, his political career began at the dawn of the 4th Republic when he successfully won election into Agege Local Government Legislative Council as a Councillor in Ward E and where he served as Deputy Leader. Before he became a Councillor, he was an active party member who served as the Zonal Chairman, EXCO member and Campaign Committee Chairman. Building on his political achievements and experience, in Y2003 at the age of 31, Obasa contested and convincingly won election to the 5th Assembly of the Lagos State House of Assembly on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to represent Agege Constituency 1. A vibrant, thorough and reliable legislator and a darling to the people of Agege, Obasa had no problem renewing his mandate for a 6-time record in 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023. He is currently the most experienced and longest serving State House of Assembly member in Nigeria. Over the years, while carrying out his representative and lawmaking duties, he has left no one in doubt in terms of his loyalty and commitment to serve as the distinguished himself as the Chairman and member of various sensitive House Committees including Education, Rural Development, Public Accounts; Local Government, Economy Planning and Budget amongst others with outstanding impacts on governance. At the inauguration of the 8th Legislative Assembly the straightforward, eversmiling and generous Obasa was unanimously elected as the 7th speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. During the period of speaker, he brought his many years of his political ingenuity and Legislative experience to the fore, thus, ushering in an era of remarkable innovation, historical development and quality representation. Amongst these, he initiated the first ever annual Constituency Stakeholder’s Meetings Which are held simultaneously across all constituencies in the State to engender deeper constituency engagement between legislators and their constituents down to the grassroots for better development.

The reports of these meetings have fuelled a number of major policies and infrastructural developments across the State since 2015. Other areas include infrastructural development in the House with cutting edge technology, active presence of the House on various social media platforms including live streaming of it’s plenary sessions with vital information and public education on its website. Very passionate about the delivery of good governance. Obasa had personally initiated a number of Private Member Bills which were passed into laws. These include the Neighborhood Safety Corps Bill, a visionary initiative that established the first law-backed local policing and intelligence gathering outfit in the South-West which is now a precursor to the proposed Amotekun Bill, the Anti-Kidnapping Bill, a proactive measure to forestall the growing security challenges in the country, and the Cancer Research Institute Bill, meant to create a cancer research institute aimed at reducing cases of cancer in the State. Under his leadership, the Lagos State House of Assembly has continued to build sterling reputation for best practices in legislature and representation. It’s laws, resolutions and activities have continued to inspire many including students, politicians, legislative and government institutions in the country and beyond. While the Lagos State House of Assembly has earned for itself numerous local and international commendations, it was no surprise that the Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa has been honoured several awards including as Best Speaker of the Year 2016 by Eko Club International, Atlanta, USA, Golden Ambassador of Lagos State University (LASU) by Lagos State University,; Podium Recognition Awards 2016 by Podium International; Best House of Assembly Speaker 2016 by Global Excellence; Speaker of the Year 2016 by City People Magazine; Outstanding Leaders Award by Christian Coalition Against Corruption; Lagos State at 50 Prestigious & Visionary Award for Leadership by Igbo Community in Lagos. He was given a Certificate of Excellence by the State of Georgia, USA in recognition of his outstanding contributions towards the development of democratic processes in Lagos State in particular and Nigeria in general.








In February, 2018, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa was named the Most Outstanding State Legislator of the Year 2018 by the Independent Newspaper Limited (ONL), publishers of Daily, Saturday and Sunday Independent Newspaper. In July 2018, the African Bar Association (ABA) honoured him with a Certificate of Recognition for his contributions to the Law profession through law-making. In August 2018, Rt. Hon.(Dr) Obasa was unanimously elected the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, another confirmation of his leadership quality and highly revered legislative experience and competence. He held this position till November 2020. In December 2018, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Obasa was named a member of the Committee for the Implementation of Autonomy for State Legislature and State Judiciary by President Muhammadu Buhari. On January 17, 2020, Tr. Hon. (Dr) Obasa was conferred with an honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) by the prestigious Joseph Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji Arakeji, Osun State in recognition of his selfless service to humanity, as well as his contributions to national issues on the development and growth of the country. As part of the recognition for his unexampled strides, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Obasa was given the chieftaincy titles as follows: Gbajumo of Egbaland by Alake of Egba, HRM, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III; Baamofin of Ijesaland by the Owa Obokun of Ilesa and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, His Royal Majesty Dr. Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran; Akomolasha of Ibadan land, by Olubadan og Ibadan, HRM, Oba Fatai Akamo; Shobaloju of Ikorodu by Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Adewale Kabiru Shotobi (Ilufemiloba, Adegorushen), Baasofin of Lagos by Oba of Lagos, HRM Oba Ridwan Akiolu. He is also a member of associations like: ×Island Club× Association of Friends Again, on June 7, 2019, Rt. Hon.(Dr) Obasa was re-elected Speaker of the Lagos State 9th Assembly. In closing, the Ojude Obasa Heritage Day left an indelible mark in the hearts of participants, strengthening the communal ties and paving the way for a renewed commitment toward strategic development in the region.
