TODAY MARKS ISESE FESTIVAL: A GLOBAL CALL TO HONOR OUR ROOTS
A Message from the Baale of Iju Station, Ifako-ijaiye, Lagos State, Nigeria to All Traditional Worshippers Across the World
High Chief. Ligali Olalekan Fagbayi
Today, the sacred drums of tradition echo once more as we celebrate Isese Day, a momentous occasion that honors the spiritual heritage, ancestral wisdom, and cultural pride of the Yoruba people and traditional worshippers across the globe.
As the Baale of Iju Station, I extend warm greetings and blessings to all sons and daughters of the soil, custodians of our sacred rites, and believers in the enduring power of Isese, our way of life, our spiritual compass, and our cultural identity.
Isese, meaning “tradition” in Yoruba, is not merely a ritual, it is the heartbeat of our existence. It encompasses the worship of Orisa (ancestral spirits), and the observance of sacred festivals that bind us to our roots. It is a celebration of the divine forces that govern nature, humanity, and destiny.
Today, we gather in spirit and in ceremony to reaffirm our commitment to the values of truth, justice, respect, and harmony, principles that have guided our forebears for centuries.
Let this day serve as a reminder that our traditions are not relics of the past, but living legacies that continue to shape our communities. Whether you are in Lagos, London, Atlanta, Bahia, or Accra, anywhere in the world today, we are one people under the sacred canopy of Isese.
I call upon all traditional worshippers to wear their cultural identity with pride. Let the world see the beauty, depth, and wisdom of our practices. Let us teach our children the songs of our ancestors, the stories of our Orisa, and the rituals that connect us to the divine.
In a world often divided by belief, Isese stands as a beacon of spiritual freedom and tolerance. We do not seek to dominate; we seek to coexist. Our shrines are places of healing, our chants are prayers for peace, and our festivals are bridges between the seen and unseen.
I urge governments, institutions, and fellow citizens to recognize and respect the rights of traditional worshippers. Our faith is ancient, dignified, and deserving of equal regard.
Across Iju Station and other towns in Yorubaland, today is marked by vibrant processions, sacred offerings, drumming, dancing, and invocations to the Orisa. We honor Obatala, Ogun, Sango, Osun, Yemoja, Esu, and many more. We pour libations to the ancestors and seek their guidance for the year ahead.
Let every shrine be lit with joy. Let every devotee feel the presence of the divine. Let every community bask in the glory of our heritage.
As Baale, I offer prayers of protection, prosperity, and spiritual elevation to all who walk the path of tradition. May your homes be filled with light, your hearts with courage, and your spirits with wisdom.
Isese Lagba! Isese Lagba!! Isese Lagba!!! Tradition is supreme. Let it reign forever.
Signed, High Chief. Ligali Olalekan Fagbayi Baale of Iju Station, Ifako-ijaiye Local Government, Lagos State, Nigeria August 20, 2025

In an unwavering commitment to good governance and transformational development, Hon. Idowu Akinola Abiodun, Executive Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), embarked on a comprehensive project inspection tour across key locations in Wards E, D, and A of the council.
The Chairman, accompanied by Council Engineer Engr. Mrs. Kosoko Abidat and a host of political stakeholders, launched the tour from Shoyinka Close, near the bustling Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Iyana-Ipaja of Ward E. This landmark journey aimed to assess and respond to pressing infrastructural challenges, particularly those related to drainage systems and flood mitigation.
Residents of Shoyinka Close and Okubanjo Street voiced long-standing grievances about poor water flow and seasonal flooding. Chairman Idowu, visibly empathetic, engaged the Council Engineer in outlining a permanent drainage solution: a strategic channeling system linking Shoyinka Close through Okubanjo Close down to Oshundairo Close and Oshundairo Street with Interlocking roads.
As the delegation progressed to Oshundairo Close, concerns over ineffective water flow and recurrent flooding took center stage. The Chairman, whose ancestral roots trace back to Oshundairo Street, assured the community of a “long-lasting solution, not just temporary relief.”
Residents expressed heartfelt appreciation for the timely intervention and praised the Chairman’s grassroots connection and proactive leadership. They also echoed the urgent need to address indiscriminate refuse dumping, which clogs drainage paths and exacerbates flooding.
The tour continued to Unity Close in Ward D, where Hon. Idowu met with local stakeholders, including education leader Mr. Olu James of Olu James Comprehensive High School. Mr. James shared the dire reality of water backflow inundating residential areas. The Chairman responded with assurances of immediate technical evaluation and swift construction remedies.
Beyond drainage, Hon. Idowu revealed expansive infrastructural plans, including the deployment of 4,000 units of solar-powered street lights and construction of new interlocking roads, a move set to enhance security and mobility across Orile-Agege LCDA.
At Dada Akapo Street in Ward A, further inspection spotlighted areas in need of road interlocking and lighting solutions, especially streets, Dada Akapo Street linking to Lateef Street, Jubilee Street, and the Maternity corridor. The Chairman’s brief visit to Ejire Lane, currently impassable by vehicles, resulted in an on-the-spot directive to prioritize its upgrade, making Ejire Lane movable to Lateef Street and Olanrokun Street in Orile-Agege.
While reviewing infrastructure on Dada Akapo Street, Hon. Idowu paid a courtesy visit to Prince Olarinde Alabi Akapo at No. 3 Dada Akapo Street. Prince Akapo warmly acknowledged the Chairman’s presence and prayed for the continued success and prosperity throughout his tenure as the Executive Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA.
As the inspection tour concluded, crowds gathered at various stops, offering warm cheers, prayers, and words of encouragement. Residents commended Hon. Idowu Akinola Abiodun popularly known as Dodo for his visible dedication and quick response to long-overdue infrastructural concerns, signaling a new dawn of development for Orile-Agege LCDA.
